DELRAY BEACH, FL, United States, via eTeligis Inc., 06/16/2014 - - InterCore, Inc. (OTCQB: ICOR) -- "The horrific nature of the accident last week, in which a Walmart tractor-trailer was involved in a multi-vehicle accident that killed one man and left four others injured, including actor/comedian Tracy Morgan, highlights the risks we take daily on our highways," said James F. Groelinger, CEO of InterCore, Inc. "Whether the early reports of the truck driver falling asleep prove to be true or not, accidents like this happen all too often as the result of drowsiness or other causes of drivers losing attentiveness. Our Driver Alertness Detection System -- DADS™ -- is a unique and effective solution."
DADS™ utilizes a small camera and a smartphone to perform biometric monitoring of multiple points of a driver's face to continually evaluate the operator's real-time level of alertness. DADS™ signals drivers when they are becoming fatigued and their skills are becoming impaired (often before they even know it themselves). In fact, DADS™ has the ability to warn drivers as much as two hours before the probable onset of sleep. This enables appropriate action to be taken well before fatigued drivers become a hazard to themselves and others.
In applications such as truck, bus, or train operations, DADS™ would provide visual and audible alerts of decreasing levels of alertness and the probable onset of sleep to both the drivers and their dispatch control centers.
Remy Babin, CEO of SRG, Inc., InterCore's wholly-owned subsidiary that has been developing DADS™, said: "In our view, work rules were implemented because there was nothing available to directly determine the state of a driver and something had to be done. However, no matter how good we get at logging and controlling the hours a driver operates, up until now there has been no sure way to know...and he or she could be in a drowsy state just a few minutes after getting behind the wheel. Drivers have said that, many times, work rules make them try to sleep when they're not tired and drive when they are. DADS™ can help prevent that from happening."
DADS™ is currently deployed in a commercial demonstration program in 5,000 trucks insured by a major insurance carrier. ICOR intends to make a full commercial launch by mid-summer as an iPhone app, with a consumer iPhone version and Android products to follow shortly afterwards.
